Standard Federal Tax Filing Deadlines
Personal Tax Deadlines (Individuals)
January 15 – 4th-quarter estimated tax for the prior year
For self-employed taxpayers or anyone who didn’t withhold enough.

W-2 / 1099-NEC furnished & filed
Employers must give employees their W-2 and businesses must give contractors their 1099-NEC by this date. Filings to SSA/IRS are due the same day.

Form 1040 due (calendar-year)
Also due: 1st-quarter estimated tax (current year) and prior-year IRA contributions.

Business Tax Deadlines
C-Corporations (Form 1120)

Return due (calendar-year C-corps)

Estimated corporate tax (calendar year): Apr 15, Jun 15, Sep 15, Dec 15
Partnerships (Form 1065) & S-Corporations (Form 1120-S)
March 15 – Return due (calendar-year entities)
(Otherwise: 15th day of the 3rd month after your year-end.)
September 15 – Extended return due (if extension was filed by Mar 15)
K-1s to partners/shareholders are due with the return.
LLCs (by tax classification)
Single member (disregarded): File with Form 1040 Schedule C by April 15.
Multi-member: Generally, files Form 1065 by March 15, unless you elected corporate status.
Payroll & Employment Taxes
Form 941 (quarterly payroll): Apr 30, Jul 31, Oct 31, Jan 31 (covers the prior quarter)
Form 940 (FUTA annual): Jan 31 (deposits may be due earlier based on liability)
Tax deposits: Monthly or semi-weekly, your deposit schedule depends on IRS look-back rules.
Special Deadlines for Trucking & Transportation
Form 2290 – Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT)
- HVUT year runs July 1–June 30.
- For vehicles first used in July, filing/payment is due August 31.
- Otherwise, it’s due to be the last day of the month after the vehicle’s first use month within HVUT year.
- We e-file through IRS-approved systems and provide your stamped Schedule 1.
IFTA – Quarterly Fuel Tax Reports
Due the last day of the month following each quarter:
Q1: April 30 Q2: July 31 Q3: October 31 Q4: January 31
Other carrier items (vary by agency/state; we can manage the calendar):
UCR renewal: typically, by Dec 31 each year
MCS-150 biennial update: due by the last day of the month tied to your USDOT#
IRP / apportioned plates: renewal dates vary by state
